Adventures in Prayer: Promises and Principles

Day 4 - Prayer Promises by Jim and Kaye Johns, E3 Prayer

We can be grateful for the wonderful prayer principles and promises in the New Testament, such as:

When we spend daily time alone with God, He rewards us… (Matthew 6:8)
When we ask, we receive; seek, we find; knock, the door will be opened… (Matthew 7:7-8)
If we have faith and do not doubt, we can have whatever we ask… (Matthew 21:21-22)
If we ask in Jesus’ name, in His authority, in His character, from His point of view, asking what He would ask…(John 14:13-14; 16-23-24, 26)
If we pray for things that will advance His kingdom… (John 14:12-13)
If answering our prayers will glorify the Father… (John 14:14; 15-8)
If we are abiding in the vine… (John 15:7)
If Jesus’ words (teachings) live in us… (John 15:7)
If we are living lives that bear lasting fruit… (John 15:16)
If we are experiencing the indwelling of the Holy Spirit…(John 16:23-26)
If we obey His commands and do what pleases Him, we can receive from Him anything we ask…
(1 John 3:21-22)
If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us, and we can have what we asked…
(1 John 5:14-15)
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much… ( John 5:16)
We may not have received what we need, because we have not asked—or we’ve asked with
wrong motives (James 4:2-3)

It’s obvious we won’t receive if we’re not asking. It’s also obvious that the answers to our prayers largely depend on the life we’re living.  We don’t have to live perfect lives. We all know we can’t do that. But we can and must live blameless lives: not perfect, but doing the right thing and when we sin, confessing it and repenting in His strength.
Let us all pray through these promises, and determine to live so that we, as Jesus’ faithful disciples surrendered to do His will, may have whatever we ask in prayer. Our God is able!

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust." Ps. 91:1-2
